Meenal is the wild daughter of a politician's wife, she is always arguing with her mother-in-law about how she wants to be free from her mother's influence. Rohan is a painter and Naina is an actress who does live theatre. They all live together as roommates and are very good friends. One day, Sameer meets Bachna (Vidya Balan) who comes from New York to make a film with her friend Divya (Pooja Bose). She is fascinated by the way they live in India, although she thinks they are weirdos. Sameer meets with her again the next day, after asking his friends to help him fix up with her. Bachna's mother visits them that same night for dinner, where they all have fun together. The next morning, Bachna has to go back to New York because of her job. Sameer goes to the airport with her and they part ways, with him promising to meet her in two days. On the night of Sameer's birthday, Bachna comes back to India because of Divya's wedding. Sameer is thrilled but does not tell his friends. Once at home, he sees a message from his father saying that he needs to come home immediately. The situation turns out to be a bit serious as there is a call from the Home Minister who informs them that they have been caught in a land scam and the police are after them.
